Beyond the sights: The mindful traveler’s guide to Prague

Prague is a fairytale city. With its ancient bridges, towering spires, and cobblestone streets, it’s easy to get swept up in the magic and rush from one breathtaking sight to the next. But city trips can also be exhausting, leaving you feeling like you need a vacation from your vacation. During my week here, I made it my mission to experience this city differently. I wanted to explore its soul without losing my own sense of balance. I discovered that the best way to connect with a new place is to do it in a way that nourishes your mind and body. So, if you're planning a trip to this incredible city, here is my personal guide to experiencing Prague, the mindful and well-balanced way. Nourish: Eat Like a Local Forget the overpriced tourist traps. The real taste of Prague is in its local markets. I spent a morning at a farmers' market (the one at Náplavka on a Saturday is amazing!) and was blown away by the fresh produce. My advice? Grab some local fruits for a snack, find some fresh vegetables, and cook at least one simple meal at your apartment. It’s cheaper, healthier, and makes you feel like you truly live there. Move: The City is Your Gym My number one travel hack? Always pack your running shoes. My morning run in Letná Park was the absolute highlight of my week. The panoramic views of the city and the Vltava River are the perfect motivation, and it’s a fantastic way to see the city wake up before the crowds descend. If running isn't your thing, the parks are also perfect for a morning yoga session or a simple walk. Explore: Slow & Sustainable Prague's public transport is incredible. The iconic red trams are not only a beautiful sight but also the most efficient and sustainable way to get around. Ditch the taxis, get a transport pass, and enjoy the city like a local. My favorite moments, however, were when I had no plan at all—just wandering through a quiet neighborhood and letting my feet lead the way. Recharge: Find Your Calm Even in the most exciting city, it’s crucial to find moments of stillness. Don’t overschedule your days. Build in time to simply sit in a quiet park, read a book in a local café, or just enjoy the view from your apartment. For me, sticking to my morning routine—meditation, journaling, and a calm cup of coffee before the day begins—was my anchor. Traveling doesn't have to mean abandoning your wellness routine; it can be an opportunity to deepen it. What are your favorite ways to stay balanced while traveling?
